Rating and Reinsurance

You are in exceptional company with Gulfstream

Insuring families throughout the Gulf Coast, we’ve seen our fair share of storms. And it’s been our ability to withstand these catastrophic events that has earned us the trust of our policyholders, our agents, and the communities we serve.

Gulfstream has also earned a Financial Stability Rating® (FSR) of A, Exceptional, from Demotech, Inc. FSRs are a leading indicator of an insurer's financial stability.(1)

Reassurance in Reinsurance

We know the wind will blow again. And when it does, Gulfstream is prepared with a comprehensive reinsurance program that leaves nothing to chance, allowing us to meet our claims obligations without compromising our financial strength. Our current reinsurance program includes the following features:

  • Coverage for the worst-case scenario. We purchase reinsurance protection in excess of the 170-year storm, meaning we're ready to respond to a large-scale catastrophic event.
  • Coverage for multiple storms. A significant share of our reinsurance coverage includes a cascading/aggregate feature, meaning losses from multiple storms will be covered.
  • Strong capital position and low retention. Our reinsurance program includes a diminishing retention. This means that, as the number of events increases, our share of the loss decreases. Because of this feature, along with our strong capital position, Gulfstream is well positioned to weather the storm.

We are backed by a diverse group of highly rated reinsurers located throughout the world.

For our reinsurance program effective June 1, 2015,(2) the insurance companies that reinsure Gulfstream are all highly rated by A.M. Best or 100% collateralized. See chart below.
